BEF’s Sunward program is dedicated to providing the economic and environmental benefits of solar and renewable energy to low-income and tribal communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. We build partnerships that develop renewable energy projects and deliver wealth-building and cost savings to communities.

What is Community Solar?
You don’t need to own a house, have a sunny roof, or invest in an installation to go solar.
Community Solar allows individuals to sign up for a shared, off-site solar installation and receive energy benefits in the form of bill credits through their subscriptions.

How does Community Solar work?

  1. You sign up as a subscriber to a local solar project.
  2. The solar project generates clean, renewable energy for the utility grid.

  3. You receive a bill credit for your portion of the solar energy generated and pay a subscription fee on your monthly utility bill. The credit covers the subscription fee and can save money on annual electricity costs.*

    *If you meet low-income guidelines, you will receive special benefits and protections, including no upfront costs, no termination fees, subscription discounts, and guaranteed savings on your energy bill.
